Trentadue Winery – Sonoma County wine tasting room

Trentadue – Where ‘Old World’ and ‘New World’ meet. The Trentadues’ have been growing grapes in Geyserville since 1959! The family moved here that year after Joseph Trentadue, the current proprietors grandfather, spent decades traveling to Healdsburg to buy grapes to make the family wine. The winery – one of the oldest in Alexander Valley – is to this day, one hundred percent family owned. The Trentadues’ continue to sell a portion of their grapes but the majority of the harvest from their 208-acre Geyserville estate and the family holdings in Dry Creek Valley, end up in the talented hands of winemaker Miro Tcholakov. Miro is from Bulgaria and has a very similar story – he too grew up watching his grandfather make wine and was inspired by the ‘sense of place’ and character that could be traced to a wines origins. He also remembers fondly how the making of wine would bring the whole town together but he admits, he’s not sure if he can attribute the family’s popularity to the ‘wine making’ or the ‘wine drinking.’ Miros’ special niche is blending ‘old world’ tradition with ‘new world’ style and for this, he has been awarded nearly 100 Gold Medals. And in 2005 Miro was named by popular media as one of the top 20 winemakers in America. Trentadue is a popular venue for wine tasters – they offer free tastings for their classic wines and charge only $5.00 for their reserve and port wines. Trentadue also has facilities for special events and can accommodate up to 250 people for a seated affair.

After our first stop at Muir Woods to admire the giant redwoods we embarked on our tour to wine country. Through the rain we drove north into the Sonoma Valley, one of the two world-famous wine-making areas north of San Francisco. The other, even more famous wine-making area, is …

White Oak in the Alexander Valley White Oak winery and wine tasting room is located in the heart of Alexander Valley on hwy 128 and was such a jewel to find – like a treasure chest right here in our own back yard. First, I have to say, this is one of the funniest and most giggley places we’ve been. The wine tasting room is teaming with a spirit much like the owners, Bill Myers, who is a retired fishing Captain from Alaska – laid back, care free and perfectly ‘salty.’ Bill started coming here …
